Cynthia HaukI am often asked why I love photography and why I’m a photographer. Whether I’m photographing weddings, portraits, or contemporary art projects, my passion is rooted in capturing the world around me. I artistically document fleeting moments that would otherwise only remain in our memory. I photograph not to recreate a moment, but to elicit an emotional reaction when you look at an image.

I photograph to remember… I photograph so my couples can remember; all of the emotional and intimate moments shared with the love of your life.. your friends.. your family.

A PROFESSIONAL “NUTS n’ BOLTS” BIO:

I am a Northampton MA based Destination Wedding and Newborn photographer. I began professionally photographing weddings and portraits in 2007 (officially launching CYN PHOTO in 2009), and to date have photographed more than 100 weddings in 5 different states. I have a lot of experience photographing multi-cultural weddings with various, beautiful traditions, and have photographed non-denominational, Chinese-American traditions, Christian, Catholic, Greek, Indian, Jewish, Protestant and same-sex ceremonies. My experiences have ranged from photographing an elopement with only the couple and two witnesses present upwards of 350 guests attending the celebration. Every wedding celebration is unique, and I enjoy documenting all of the small details that describe every couple’s love story.

I earned my Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degree from the Art Institute of Boston at Lesley University in Interdisciplinary Arts (specializing in Photography and Installations) in 2010. In my spare time, I enjoy teaching intimate photography workshops on portraiture and community, and mentor several beginning to mid-level career artists regarding their photography craft and business. I am based in Western Massachusetts and specialize in Wedding and Portrait Photography servicing the New England region, Colorado, national and international destination weddings.

AFFILIATIONS: CYN PHOTO is affiliated with Professional Photographers of America (PPA), Wedding & Portrait Photographers International (WPPI) in association with Rangefinder Magazine, and can be found featured as a vendor on the sites of Wedding Wire, Wedding Bee, Martha Stewart Weddings, Snapknot, SoYourEngayged, and Project Wedding. CYN PHOTO was Wedding Wire rated in 2010 and awarded WeddingWire’s Bride’s Choice Award in 2011 and 2012; ranking CYN PHOTO in the top 5% of wedding industry professionals based on quality and service.

A RAMBLING “GETTING TO KNOW YOU” BIO:

After 7 years in the corporate world, I decided it was time for a change. In 2006, I studied Visual Arts and Photography in a one-year graduate program in Florence, Italy. After returning to the States, I photographed weddings for two years in Colorado and then continued photographing weddings throughout New England while completing my Master of Fine Arts degree. I fell in love with capturing such an important and special day in people’s lives. So many emotions are expressed during a couple’s wedding, and I most enjoy preserving moments in a way that is:

GENUINE. ARTISTIC. PLAYFUL.

I approach photographing weddings with a strong artistic sensibility, and pride myself on documenting as unobtrusively as possible. My philosophy while photographing is largely based on “the decisive moment” coined by the father of photojournalism, Henri Cartier-Bresson. Through my photographs, I tell the story of your day to be cherished and relived for years to come.

While originally born in Michigan, I spent most of my life in Colorado and have been lucky to live in 3 countries (United States, England and Italy) and have visited 13 countries (United States, England, Italy, Mexico, Canada, Ireland, Scotland, Austria, Holland, Spain, Germany, Switzerland, and France). I adore traveling and experiencing different cultures, and am grateful to work with amazing couples while doing what I love – creating, traveling, and helping others. I am a huge lover of the outdoors, hiking, swimming and yoga, live music, studying the Italian language and culture, and the arts.

I ADORE NATURE AND TRAVELING TO EXPLORE NEW PLACES!
